One of the books that helped me through this journey, is a book by DR EH GUTI Founder of Forward In Faith Ministries. It really helped me with some questions I had. I will put a summary of the book and a link to the book incase you need to get it for yourself. It can also definitely help you also help other people out there. This book is meant for new and mature believers.
1. YOU HAVE BECOME A NEW CHRISTIAN
Now that you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal saviour, you are born again. You are now born of God and your sins have been washed away. You have the gift of eternal life. John 3:15,16 "That whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life..." And are experiencing the joy of being forgiven. You are justified and cleansed by believing in Jesus Christ and there is no more condemnation. "He who believes in Him is not condemned...," (John 3: 18a) Because you have life eternal in Christ, your name is written in the book of life.
Now that you are born of the Spirit of God, you have become a child of God for the Bible says in John 1:12, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God..." That means you are registered as a child of God.
The children of God in the whole world are your brothers and sisters in Christ.
The relationship with the devil is broken and you are set free from his bondage by faith through Christ who was raised from the dead. Jesus Christ has delivered you from the power of darkness. The Bible says he has delivered us. Colossians 1:13-14. All God's promises in the Bible are yours in Christ Jesus. You are now an heir of God and a joint heir with Christ.
The life you are now to live should be according to the word of God.
Live for God.
WHAT TO DO WHEN DOUBT COMES.
The devil will try to throw doubt and discourage you causing you to question your salvation. He may try to tell you that you are not saved, that there is no change at all. This should not surprise you. The Bible says you are saved by faith and not by feeling. Eph. 2:8; Romans 10:9(a). You need to know what God says in His Word. Using the Word will help you to overcome. Even Jesus used the Word when He was being tempted of the devil. Matthew 4:4-10.
Remember that the devil is a liar. John 8:44 says, "You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it." If he brings any thoughts of doubting your salvation, resist him. Don't yield to his tactics. James 4:7 says, "Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you." He cannot stop you calling the name of the Lord. The Bible says, "For whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13. Jesus says, "
...and the one who comes to me I will by no means cast out." John 6:37. Now that you have come to him, He will not cast you out but has accepted you into His love.
HOW WE FACE TEMPTATIONS
A temptation is not a sin. My mother used to say, "We cannot stop birds to fly over our heads but we don't allow them to build their nests on our heads." She meant that we cannot stop temptations to come our way but we should not entertain the thought of it. It is quite true that as a Christian you will face many temptations, but if you look unto Jesus, He will strengthen you through those hard times. The Bible says in Romans 8:37, "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us." Also 1 Tim. 6:12, "Fight the good fight of faith. Lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses."
Though there are times of temptations, rejoice because your name is written in the book of life. Luke 10:20, "Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven." Christ is now in you by faith.
Since He overcame the enemy for you, you also become a partaker of Christ's sufferings. " ..for the joy of the Lord is your strength." Neh. 8:10. You need to die to sin and live for God. It is not your power or zeal that will defeat or overcome Satan, but it is only by allowing Christ to live in and control your life. Nonetheless, with each temptation Christ has promised a way of escape. "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it." 1 Cor 10:13
"Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been proved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him." James 1:12.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR A NEW BELIEVER
Since you are now aware of the things to guard in your Christian life, in brief let me outline some of the things you are to do as a believer. Every time, put God first in your life.
Jesus said; "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." Matthew 6:33.
In the very beginning of the Bible we meet these words;
Genesis 1:1, "In the beginning God" Let these words be the aim, goal and policy of your life. Seek to know His will. Let this be in your mind that the most important thing in your life is for God to be glorified.
READ THE BIBLE DAILY
Read your Bible daily but before you read, please pray first for the Lord to open your spiritual eyes for the Bible says:
"Open my eyes that I may see wondrous things from your law." Psalms 119:18. It again says, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path." Psalms 119:105. "The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple." Psalms 119:130. " ..and the spirit of God will guide you. John 16:13.
The new life has begun because of the power of the Holy Spirit. You need to strengthen your spirit by taking in the word of God. Read your Bible daily. To understand the Bible properly, you must study it with the idea that God is speaking to you through His Word. You will find great encouragement and instructions from your Father (God) through the Scriptures. The Bible is the guide for your Christian life.
Since in this natural life you need physical food, likewise your spirit needs spiritual food, which is the Word of God. Jesus answered, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." Matthew 4:4.
Arm yourself with knowledge of the word of God when you fight against the Devil. "And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Ephesians 6:17.
The Word of God teaches us how we should live in accordance with what God requires. "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. The entrance of Your words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple." Psalm 119:11, 105, 130. "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom..." Col 3: 16.
Finally, try to read the Bible in a chronological order, chapter by chapter. Do not just pick verses.
WATER BAPTISM
Repent and, be baptized every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins." Acts 2:38.
Acts 8:38, "So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him."
"And many who had believed came confessing and telling their deeds. Also, many of those who had practiced magic brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted up the value of them, and it totalled fifty thousand pieces of silver." Acts 19:18-19.
You have to be baptized. Jesus said to His disciples, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Mat. 28:19.
It is important that you be baptized after your conversion.
Water baptism is an act of obedience. It is an act of public confession; a testimony to the world that you are a Christian.
The act signifies the death of the old self and a resurrection unto the new life. "Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." Rom 6:4.
